Marble care guide
Regular care keeps the natural beauty and durability of a marble piece. These instructions will help you keep your marble furniture looking its best for a long time. Marble is a gift of nature: offered in many colors and patterns, every piece of this natural stone tells its own story. Each of our pieces is worked with care by our craftsmen and brings quiet elegance to a home, an office or any other living space.
Protecting and caring for natural stone matters if it is to keep its beauty and character over the years. These instructions guide you in cleaning your marble pieces, protecting them and keeping them in the best condition.
Before you start, it helps to know which stone your piece is made of. Different stones have different properties, and some need particular care. Our marble range describes the stones we work with.
Regular cleaning is the basis of protecting marble. Follow the guidelines below, take the right precautions in special situations and use care products made for natural stone.
Cleaning
- Use a soft cloth or sponge to clean the surface.
- A mild cleaner or a pH-neutral soap is enough.
- Test any cleaner on a small area first and check the result.
- Avoid harsh or acidic cleaning products; they can damage the surface.
- Do not use too much water when cleaning, so that water does not soak into the stone.
Stains
- Wipe liquid spills as soon as possible.
- Blot the spill with a cloth or sponge, pressing gently rather than rubbing.
- Clean stains right away so they do not set or soak deeper into the stone.
- Do not use force or a rough sponge; both can damage the surface.
- For stubborn stains use a cleaner made for marble, and read the instructions carefully before using it.
Hot items
- Avoid placing very hot items directly on the surface.
- Use a trivet or heat protection under hot pots, pans or cups.
- Hot items can leave marks or cracks on the surface, so take care.
General care
- Dust the surface regularly. Dust dulls the natural beauty of the stone.
- Wipe the surface regularly with a damp cloth.
- Keep sharp or hard objects from striking the surface; they can scratch it.
- Keep chemicals off the surface. Acetone, ammonia and anything acidic can damage marble.
Special situations
- Acidic liquids such as fruit juice, wine or coffee should be wiped up immediately; they can stain.
- If rusty or abrasive materials touch the surface, clean right away and, to avoid damage, consult a specialist cleaner where possible.
- Because of the natural porous structure of marble, some substances can stain or discolor the surface. In such cases we recommend a professional stone cleaning service.
Our pieces are sealed before delivery; renewing the sealer about every two years keeps the stone looking as it did on the first day.
